Wahl-Eversharp DECOBAND Gold Seal Oversized Rosewood SUPERFLEX. That is one hell of a name for a pen.
My first experience with the Eversharp family was a vintage Skyline from the 1940s. A gift from my sister, it was my first experience with vintage pens. To my surprise, it quickly became one of my favorite pens. My interest in Eversharp grew to incorporate vintage Decobands, but I never managed to get my hands on one.
Then came the modern Decoband and boy is it a beauty. Measuring nearly six inches long and weighing 44 grams unposted, it is by no means a small pen. That said, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
From the photos, though, this isn't really a commentary on the pen; the nib, as far as I'm concerned, is the real star. 18k gold with a gorgeous red-lacquered ebonite nib, this thing is absolutely massive. Incredible laser etching and lovely patterning on the nib's face make for a real stunner.
This nib won't please everyone. For me, between the pen's weight and the length of the tines, the nib feels fun with a decent amount of modern flex. For others, it's too mushy, like a slightly less squishy titanium nib. There's no wrong answer here, but there's one thing none of us can disagree with: it's a gorgeous nib.
